SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCES
-
Lotus Development Corporation, cc:Mail,
Manager of Administration Programs.
Mountain View, California.
-
April 1995 - March 1996.
After a three month hiatus (which was much too easy to get used to) I found a job working for my old manager from Xerox. I had heard that many people had left Xerox to go work for cc:Mail and when my old manager heard I was 'available' he gave me a call. Since my experience working with him was a good one before, I thought I'd check it out and lo and behold, here I am. I was originally brought on board to manage the development of a new administrative program for cc:Mail. The goal was to bring the admin side of the system up to the 90's along with the client side. Since the current effort was expected to be completed about two months after I started, my project would be number 1 on the hit parade soon after that. Unfortunately, the estimate of a couple of more months was overly optimistic and we spent another year working out the challenges of making a file-sharing database work in a 24 hour by 7 day a week environment. It took some time, but in mid 1996, we did it. Of course, by that time, I had been given more and other responsibilities. So, the job I was hired to do was now another manager's task.

Lotus Development Corporation, cc:Mail,
Manager, Core Technologies and System Management.
Mountain View, California.
-
April 1996 - Present.
After about a year with cc:Mail, the organization was changed around a bit and I was given the responsibility for the core technologies (database and tools) as well as the administrative programs for cc:Mail. This was a great opportunity but one that had more political ramifications than I originally thought and so I cut back a bit and have been focusing my efforts on the core technologies effort. I'm now responsible for all aspects of the database and the tools used in its maintenance, including quality engineering. So, while I have a more narrow focus, allowing a more concentrated effort, I have a broader product responsibility-- just another challenge along the way! And who knows what the next step might be? If you think a partnership with your company and myself would be mutually beneficial-- take a look at my current
